During the 2008 Democratic National Convention in Denver in August, more than 500 delegates joined America's Agenda: Health Care for All for an event honoring former House Majority Leader and presidential candidate Richard "Dick" Gephardt for his lifelong leadership and dedication to health care reform.
"For more than 30 years Dick has been a champion in the fight to win affordable, high-quality health care for all Americans," said America's Agenda President Doug Dority. "His commitment to achieving the health care reform this country so desperately needs has been well-documented. I am particularly proud to honor him during the Democratic National Convention, where he will be surrounded by so many people who have followed his leadership on this issue".
Gephardt's devotion to health care reform dates back to the 1970s, when he was a junior Congressman from Missouri. He was an instrumental part of the Clinton reform plan in 1993. More recently, as a leading presidential candidate in 2004, Gephardt introduced a national health care plan that rallied the Democratic Party and led to substantive discussion and progress, both at the grassroots level and in boardrooms across America. Today, as a private citizen and volunteer member of the America's Agenda Board of Directors, Gephardt continues his work to achieve high quality, affordable health care for every American.
"We're going to make this happen. We're going to reform health care in America," said Gephardt. Organized labor, and all the friends of organized labor, and business who believe in this, are going to get this done".
