Jan Faiks is Vice President for Government Affairs and Law at the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA), the trade association for the research-based pharmaceutical companies.  At PhRMA, her responsibilities include working state policy and legislative issues related to the accessibility of and reimbursement for prescription drugs, including the Medicaid program, the new Medicare Drug Benefit, and other state-based pharmaceutical programs.  She also assists in developing strategies for expanding PhRMA’s working relationships with patient and physician groups and state and local opinion leaders.

Before joining PhRMA, Mrs. Faiks worked as an investigative counsel for the U.S. House of Representatives Energy and Commerce Committee.  Prior to that, she was Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Department of Labor in the first Bush Administration.  Before coming to Washington, D.C., she served in the Alaska State Senate, where she was elected the first woman president and presiding officer of a state senate in the U.S.

Mrs. Faiks received a bachelor’s degree from Florida State University in mathematics and earned a law degree from the Georgetown University Law Center.  She is licensed to practice law in the state of Maryland and the District of Columbia.
