America's Agenda: Health Care for All will co-sponsor a workshop entitled “21st Century Care Delivery strategies that Will Drive Down Taft-Hartley Plan Costs” on September 27 at the National Coordinating Committee for Multiemployer Plans (NCCMP) Annual Conference in Hollywood, Florida. The conference, which runs from September 26 - 28, will bring Taft-Hartley health plan representatives together to discuss strategies for protecting and strengthening multi-employer plans in the new, post-federal reform environment.
The workshop, which will be moderated by America's Agenda Executive Director Mark Blum, will feature a panel of national leaders in the development and launching of innovative health care delivery models that have demonstrated real promise of reducing costs and improving quality of Taft-Hartley health plans. The panel will include Dr. Jim Barr, MD, Medical Director of Optimus Health Care, Norm WU, president and CEO of Qliance Medical Group, John Slatery, Director of Benefits for the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, and Regina Reardon, TPA for the UFCW Local 1776 Health and Welfare Fund.
“Health trusts jointly managed by unions and our employers have the capacity to lead transformation of health care in our county from the fragmented, hyperinflationary system we have today to the kind of affordable, well-coordinated, high-quality healthcare system Americans want,” said America’s Agenda President Doug Dority. “It’s our mission to accomplish this transformation, and we couldn’t have better partners in the effort than the union and employer members of NCCMP.“
“The various team-based care delivery models that the workshop panelists will discuss have demonstrated impressive success in reducing care costs and improving medical outcomes,” said America’s Agenda Executive Director Mark Blum. “The panelists will examine the data and engage with the audience in discussion about how they can overcome obstacles to cost-saving care transformation in their own Taft-Hartley health plans.”
In addition, Mark Blum and Art Drechsler, Executive Director of the Equity League Health Trust Fund, will address the plenary session of the NCCMP Annual Conference on Tuesday morning, September 27th. Mark will address, “Taft-Hartley Strategies for Cost-Saving Transformation.” Art will discuss cost saving tactics that any Taft-Hartley can quickly adopt.
